BMW is well and truly back on the turbo bandwagon. Having already introduced the brilliant twin-turbo I6 engine that is making its way through the range, the German prestige brand has decided to bolt a turbo on to both banks of its new 4.4-litre V8 engine. The resulting powerplant belts out a healthy 300kW and a mighty 600Nm of torque, blasting it from 0-100km/h in just 5.4 seconds. The first vehicle to take the new engine is the boldly styled X6 four-wheel drive – a cross between a sports coupe and a traditional SUV. Built off the same base as the X5 4WD but sporting unique panels, the X6 offers the ride height of an off-roader mixed with coupe styling. It is no lightweight, hitting the scales at 2190kg, and is longer and wider than the X5. The X6 is also available with a twin-turbo I6 petrol and turbo-diesel six engines.
