BMW elected not to make a formal presentation to the media at the Melbourne show this morning, despite having three new models to show off – including a production version of the X6.

Also presented for the first time was the 1 Series Convertible, while the 1 Series Coupe made its first Melbourne appearance, having made its Australian debut at the Brisbane motor show earlier this month.

Both sporty 1 Series variants will be delivered to customers from May 20, with the Coupe priced from $54,400 (as announced in Brisbane) and the Convertible starting at $52,900 for the 120i base model, extending to $63,400 for the 125i and topping out at $78,400 for the stonking 135i.

The X6 will go on sale in August comprising two variants – the 3.5-litre twin-turbo xDrive35i priced from $111,500 and the diesel xDrive35d from $117,000 – while a twin-turbo petrol V8 variant will be launched here early in 2009.

BMW also presented a new stand in Melbourne that is more “experiential” for visitors, featuring fewer vehicles, more information and “visual stimulation”.
