BMW X6 M Performance Parts range adds grunt

BMW’s next-generation X6 SUV has just touched down in Australia and owners will soon have a new range of M Performance Parts to pick from when, including the option to add even more grunt.

The new M kit catalogue will be available next year and includes the Aerodynamics Package which brings a tougher look to the X6 with a carbon front splitter, rear diffuser and spoiler, back window fins and side flaps in high gloss black.

There are also hand-made carbon wing mirror caps, while the radiator grille gets a black frame and slats.

Buyers have a choice of four 21-inch two-colour light-alloy wheels which weigh 1.5kg less than the regular rim.

A stainless-steel exhaust system with chromed trapezoidal tailpipes is also new to the new exterior M parts list.

For the cabin, owners can order new brushed stainless-steel look LED door sill plates with illuminated M Performance lettering, a carbon gear-shift knob and interior trim strips, Alcantara-clad steering wheel with red centre marker and stainless steel pedal covers and foot rest.

The new M Performance Parts range also goes under the bonnet with upgrade packs for the X6’s powerplants.

The Power Kit for the X6 xDrive30d raises the power and torque of the 3.0-litre inline turbo-diesel six-cylinder engine from 190kW and 560Nm to 204kW and 585Nm thanks to a new control unit with revised engine data and additional hardware including upgraded intercooler.

The extra grunt shaves 0.2 seconds off the regular car’s 7.5 second 0-100km/h time. Included in the kit are larger 18-inch front brake discs for increased stopping power.

The Power Kit for X6 xDrive35i ups the output of the 225kW/400Nm 3.0-litre inline turbo-petrol six to 240kW/450Nm cutting the 0-100km/h time by 0.5 seconds over the 6.7 second time of the regular version.

Bigger brakes are added too, with 19-inch M Performance light-weight discs with blue M calipers.

Another accessory for track-focused X6 owners is the BMW M Performance Drive Analyser which allows drivers to collect and store performance data from their car on their phone using an app and an on-board diagnostic stick.

BMW’s second-generation X6 is now on sale in Australia. Kicking off the range is the xDrive30d for $115,400, plus on-road costs, the xDrive35i’s price tag is $120,700, stepping up into the xDrive40d costs $128,400, the xDrive50i is $151,600 while the range topping M50d is $157,900.
