BMW lobs pricing for X5 M and X6 M Black Fire Edition

BMW has released pricing for its limited-run Black Fire Edition X5 M and X6 M pair, with just 25 examples coming to Australian showrooms priced from $205,900 plus on-roads for the X5 M.

Opting for the X6 M Black Fire Edition increases the asking price to $214,800, making it the most expensive SUV offering in BMW’s stable.

Upgrading to the Black Fire Edition adds a $16,890 premium over the ‘regular’ X5 M and X6 M, with the first examples expected to arrive in Australian dealerships in October.

Of the 25 examples coming to Australia, 15 are X5 SUVs, while the other 10 are X6 coupes.

As the name would suggest, the Black Fire Edition adds a number of dark visual touches including Sapphire Black Metallic paint, black M double kidney bars, carbon mirror caps, rear window sun protection glazing and 21-inch forged M black alloy wheels.

The black theme continues in the cabin, with an anthracite headliner, piano black trim, M Edition Black Fire logos, the choice of an M leather or M Performance Alcantara steering wheel, and two-tone black and Mugello Red Merino leather trim for the multifunction M seats, centre console, dash and door panels.

No changes have been made to the powertrain underpinning the performance SUV pair, which continues to use a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 capable of punching out 423kW/750Nm, ensuring a 0-100km/h time of just 4.2 seconds.

A rear-biased xDrive all-wheel-drive system is fitted, with power sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission.

The X5 has been the best-selling large premium SUV so far in 2017 with 2228 sales, despite dropping 18.6 per cent compared to the 2737 sales BMW recorded to the same point in 2016.

Only 298 examples of the X6 have been sold to the end of July, a 22.2 per cent drop over its 2016 figure.
