Limited release of BMW X3, X4 Frozen Edition

BY MIKE FOURIE | 22nd Mar 2022

BMW Australia announced the launch of two new limited-edition X3 and X4 M40i variants that feature striking BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey matte-finished metallic paint finishes and a range of unique specification elements.

Just 37 examples of the medium-SUV variants (17 units of the X3 M40i Frozen Edition and 20 of the X4 M40i Frozen Edition) will arrive in Australia during the second quarter of the year and buyers can reserve units online at BMW Shop.

Apart from the exclusive paint finish, the variants are distinguished by an M Shadow Line kidney grille in high-gloss black, wing-mirror caps clad in carbon-fibre, a tailgate spoiler in carbon fibre (X4 M40i Frozen Edition only), gloss-red finished M Sport brakes callipers and standard sun-protection glazing.

The pair’s interior highlights, which represent additions over the adornments fitted to standard versions of the X3 and X4 M40i, include black Vernasca leather upholstery and Sensatec instrument panel trim, both with red contrast stitching (available for the first time on X3), carbon-fibre BMW M trim inserts, as well as seat belts with BMW M tri-colour stitching, BMW Australia said.

The M40i is the only inline six-cylinder variant in the BMW X3 and X4 ranges apart from the range-topping M models. As opposed to their twin-turbo flagship brethren, the M40i is powered by a twin-scroll single-turbo 3.0-litre petrol engine develops peak outputs of 285kW and 500Nm.

The claimed figures for the X3 and X4 are the same; the variants are said to accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds, while consuming 8.9L/100km on the combined cycle.

The X3 and X4 M40i compete with models such as the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel-engined Audi SQ7 and SQ7 Sportback (which produce 250kW and 700 Nm and are said to accelerate from zero to100 km/h in 5.1 seconds), the 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6-powered Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and GLC43 Coupe (287kW and 520Nm, 4.9 seconds) and the recently facelifted Porsche Macan GTS, with its 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol motor (280 kW and 520Nm, 4.6 seconds).

BMW Australia says that the process of placing an order for the BMW X3- or X4 M40i Frozen Edition involves visiting its online shop and logging in with either a BMW ID account or as a guest. The customer then selects their vehicle and their preferred BMW dealer followed by payment of a $2500 reservation fee.

Once the vehicle allocation has been secured, the preferred BMW dealer liaises with the customer and arranges delivery and handover.

All BMW models are covered by a three-year manufacturer warranty.

2022 BMW X3 & X4 Frozen Edition pricing*:
