BMW has applied its latest engine and transmission technology to the lightly-facelifted X1 crossover, boosting performance, efficiency and driveability.

A few styling tweaks inside and out plus the introduction of BMW’s Lines customisation packs ice the cake.

As expected from a BMW, the X1 impresses with its driving dynamics, but despite work to improve the interior, we feel the cabin falls short of the car’s premium status and pricing.

But have the new engines and transmission made BMW’s smallest SUV more pleasurable to drive or sapped some of its six-cylinder soul?
