New parts shed for BMW

BY MARTON PETTENDY | 6th May 2008

BMW Australia today officially opened a new 12,600 square-metre parts distribution centre in Sydney, in order to better service its projected short-term sales growth and the company’s stated target of 20,000 vehicle sales in Australia annually by 2011.

The German maker says the new components logistics facility, located in southwest Sydney near the M5 motorway, will increase the speed with which parts are delivered to BMW dealers nation-wide.

In a new twin-warehouse strategy, BMW’s existing Melbourne parts centre will support the new primary facility in Sydney as a satellite operation to stock medium to fast-moving parts. Until now, it has serviced new BMW sales that grew 85 per cent from 9318 vehicles in 1997 to 17,197 last year.
