BMW’s most rapid open-top model will also be its most expensive – that's the unashamed message from the Bavarian car-maker, whose controversial chief designer Chris Bangle will pull the rug from the all-new M6 Convertible at this week's Sydney motor show.

Priced at a cool $295,000 – about $73,000 more than the 650i Convertible upon which it's based and $65,000 more than the M5, with which it shares its 373kW/520Nm 5.0-litre V10 engine – BMW’s most ballistic rag-top ever arrives in Australia in December.

The M6 Convertible made its global debut at the London motor show in July and blasts to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds – just a tenth slower than the M6 Coupe.

BMW Group Australia hopes around 60 well-heeled Aussies will fork out annually for its most expensive convertible ever, which tips the scales at 2005kg - nearly 300kg more than the 1710kg M6 Coupe.
