FIRST seen here in the redesigned 3 Series sedan launched last month, BMW's new R6-series inline six-cylinder engines have now filtered up to the larger 5 Series sedan. Also available in the new E61 530i Touring wagon launched alongside them in June, BMW's new 3.0-litre six-pack improves upon what many describe as some of the world's finest six-cylinder engines. While the upgraded 530i sedan now produces a frantic 190kW of peak power (and the same 300Nm of torque), the 525i sedan is now powered by a 160kW/250Nm 2.5-litre six. In an impressive feat of engineering, the new sixes increase the performance of both 5 Series sedan variants while reducing fuel consumption.
