THE 5 Series Sport has stiffer, more sporting suspension settings than the stock-standard sedans though it uses the same light-alloy all-independent suspension. MacPherson struts are used up front and a multi-link design at the rear axle, with coil springs, gas dampers and a ball joint-mounted stabiliser bar used at each end. BMW claims the lightweight construction reduced weight by about 65kg over comparable, conventional suspension.
