A SHARP new BMW 3 Series is on the streets and the question is – does it enable BMW to maintain its position at the pinnacle of mid-size prestige motoring? In a word, yes. The new 3 Series doesn’t do anything greatly different to its predecessor, but it does everything just a little bit better, bigger and safer - and, laudably, more economically. The looks, compared with the 5 and 7 Series, are slightly toned-down so as not to alienate potential buyers and the interior is a little bigger in all dimensions. The new engines, new suspensions and ever-evolving electronically aided dynamics ensure this is about as vital, efficient and safe a prestige car as you’re likely to buy.
