BMW's satellite navigation system is optional in the 330i sedan. The system displays information on a TV screen in the dash centre. In August 2000, its mapping extended beyond Melbourne and Sydney to include all mainland capital cities and the major highways linking them. The Philips CARIN-based system was introduced in October 1998, and operates via the BMW On Board Monitor fitted standard to many models and optional on most others.
