THE 330i's suspension comprises MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear, which was a new development for the E46 3 Series. A number of axle components, including the front track control arms and spring strut supports, are now made from lightweight aluminium and, overall, the 318i's suspension is 8kg lighter than that of its predecessor. "Sports" suspension is now also included on 318is with manual transmission, while the convertible's chassis contains about 60kg of aluminium - about 20 per cent of its weight.
