BMW is being cautious with how the latest 318i will be received, but after a brief stint in the iconic sedan’s first-ever three-cylinder turbo engine proposition, we think it’s being overly so.

Light, wieldy, and punchy from the get-go, the new entry-level F30 variant is a sweetheart, and lives up to the brand’s techno/performance image with grace and panache.

Just make sure the one you’re driving has the optional adaptive dampers, to take the hard edge off the ride.
