YOU could be forgiven for thinking the 318i is powered by a 1.8-litre engine - which it was prior to this model - but now it uses a 1895cc (or 1.9-litre) eight-valve, single cam, four-cylinder engine good for 87kW at 5500rpm and 180Nm at 3900rpm. It is no rocketship, with independent tests showing the manual covers 0-100km/h in about 11.5 seconds, however fuel consumption is an economical 9.0L/100km (9.5 auto) for the official city cycle.
