BMW extends Sport Collection offerings

BMW has extended its Sport Collection treatment to the 118i hatch and 220i Gran Coupe from this month.

Both variants offer what the German importer says are unique specification and convenience elements, including standard metallic paint, a panoramic sunroof, front seat heater and M high-gloss Shadowline garnishing.

Available respectively from $54,900 and $64,900 drive-away, the duo is powered by familiar three- and four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo drivelines, offering what BMW says are high levels of response, output, and efficiency.

Additional features for both the 118i hatch and 220i Gran Coupe Sport Collection include a choice of Black Sapphire, Melbourne Red, Misano Blue or Skyscraper Grey paint, the 220i Gran Coupe adding an additional Snapper Rocks Blue hue. The 220i Gran Coupe further receives Sensatec upholstery.

The upgrades join what is already a comprehensive list of standard inclusions for the popular entry-level premium duo.

Both models receive as standard BMW’s M Sport package, two-tone 18-inch M light alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, LED head- and fog lights, driving assistant, sport front seats with electric adjustment, LED ambient cabin lighting, Comfort Access, M Sport steering wheel and parking assistant.

Other technology highlights include a colour head-up display, Live Cockpit Professional with BMW OS7 software, BMW Connected Package Professional, wireless smartphone connectivity, DAB+ digital radio reception and wireless device charging.

Year-to-date sales (to the end of March) for the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe – both of which compete in the Small passenger car over $40K segment – show steady sales in line with rivals like the Mercedes-Benz A- and B-Class and Audi A3.

The segment top 10 best sellers are as follows: MG 4 (1335), Audi A3 (716), Volkswagen Golf (592), Subaru WRX (431), Mercedes-Benz A-Class (386), BMW 1 Series (308), Honda Civic (293), GWM Ora (282), BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe (231), and Cupra Born (153).
