First look: Bentley twin-turbo powerhouse

BY JAMES STANFORD | 14th Mar 2007

BENTLEY unveiled a potent grand touring coupe at the Geneva motor show last week.

The Brooklands is a large four-seat luxury cruiser that replaces the Continental R coupe and is expected to arrive in Australia halfway through next year.

The big two-door runs the most powerful Bentley V8 engine yet. With the help of two turbochargers, the 6.8-litre engine produces 395kW and a mammoth 1050Nm of torque.

Bentley is yet to release performance figures for the Brooklands, but assures potential owners that the car will deliver “supercar levels of in-gear acceleration”.

The design of the sleek Bentley is similar to the Continental R coupe that was introduced at the 1991 Geneva show, but is more muscular with deeper bumpers, a steeply raked windscreen and standard 20-inch alloy wheels.

Only 500 Brooklands cars will be built.
