Geneva Show: Bentley teases Bacalar super-GT

BY CALLUM HUNTER | 13th Feb 2020

BENTLEY is gearing up to reveal an all new super-GT, hand built from “sustainable and ethically-sourced materials” and called the Bacalar.

The British marque is yet to reveal any official images of the Bacalar though it has teased the elegant boot-line and nameplate in a recent video as well as the wheel design, with designers confirming the new car was inspired by last year’s EXP 100 GT concept.

The EXP 100 GT, despite being a two-door coupe, measured in at 5.8m long and almost 2.5m wide and yet still managed to weigh in at less than 2000kg.

Executives said at the time the concept was the “physical embodiment of the future Bentley brand” and so it seems they weren’t kidding given the Bacalar will be unveiled in less than a month.

The only other clue gifted by Bentley as to the Bacalar’s styling were the words “beautiful yet dramatic”.

Even more mystery surrounds the power and drivetrain with Bentley not giving anything away although the possibility of it being a hybrid is more than likely given the ever-tightening emissions regulations as well as the fact the EXP 100 GT debuted as an EV.

While the Bacalar will be on display at the Geneva Motor Show from March 5, its official debut will be on March 3.

As for numbers, Bentley are again remaining tight lipped but said: “many will get to see the Bentley Mulliner Bacalar following its reveal… but it will only be enjoyed by a very few”.

This leads us to believe that production will be strictly limited, but all will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5.
