THE TT uses a maintenance-free power-assisted rack and pinion steering system with a direct ratio for ?sporty? handling. Audi says the system gives optimum road feel and high steering precision at all speeds. The steering pivot point is actually outside the centre of the front tyre to compensate for uneven traction under braking ? a concept employed on the first VW Passat in the 1970s.
