ALTHOUGH the quattro uses MacPherson strut suspension at the front - like the two-wheel drive TT - the rear suspension is an independent system with trailing and transverse arms. To save space, springs and shock absorbers are separately mounted. A rollbar pivots on the wheel hub backplate by means of a connecting linkage. The front suspension has forged lower control arms, new guide joints and larger journals, and the stabiliser bar pivots directly on the spring struts. The system is derived from the Audi A3 and is similar to the all-independent arrangement used on the S3 version.
