CES: Audi goes all Hollywood

BY RON HAMMERTON | 13th Dec 2018

AUDI is planning to use the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January to reveal its vision for in-car entertainment to stave off boredom in the brave new world of autonomous driving.

Using new connected vehicle formats, the German company promises that it will show how to turn the inside of a car into an amusement park via next-generation digital in-car entertainment.

Fun and games will also extend to entertainment while the car is stationary in the form of a new-age drive-in movie system – inside the car.

It says the system – Audi Immersive In-Car Entertainment – will allow the occupants to enjoy Hollywood blockbusters or content provided by streaming services.

Says Audi in a press release trumpeting the systems: “The Audi models of the future will be even more connected and therefore provide the prerequisites for an entertainment space.

“Thanks to automated driving, occupants will have ‘free’ time in the car in the future, in which they can use the next generation of in-car entertainment.”

Audi will also showcase its new all-electric e-Tron at the show on January 8-11.

The company will be one of about 4000 exhibitors at the event that attracts about 170,000 visitors each year.

As automotive technology becomes increasingly electronic and connected, the show has become the go-to event for the motor industry as it increasingly turns its back on traditional shows such as the Detroit show which starts a few days later in January 2019.
