Audi joins the dots

BY TERRY MARTIN | 20th Sep 2005

AUDI Australia has added microdot vehicle identification marking to its entire range of vehicles, following what the company describes as its "successful implementation" with the A6 and A8 models.

The move is expected to increase the security rating of Audi vehicles in Australia and has proven to be an effective counter-attack against professional theft rackets, which tend to target prestige and sports vehicles.

Microdots bearing the vehicle’s VIN are found across the vehicle, making it difficult to change the identity of either a whole vehicle or its parts.

Audi joins Holden Special Vehicles, Ford Performance Vehicles, Subaru, Porsche, BMW, Mini and Mitsubishi's Lancer Evo model in using DataDot technology.
