AUDI'S 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine was the only engine available at launch in February, 2001, and although the European market has had the choice of a turbo-diesel for some time, Audi waited 15 months to land one in Australia for public sale. The single-turbo V6 2.5-litre intercooled diesel with direct injection is, at the time of its Australian launch, unique. Delivering a smooth 132kW at 4000rpm of power and a mighty 370Nm at 1500-2500rpm of torque, this diesel is one out of the box. Audi achieved this output through the use of V6 cylinder configuration and the associated double overhead cam driving 24 valves in unison, plus the added boost that comes with an intercooler delivering cooler compressed air into the engine.
