TO PARAPHRASE a certain television tuna commercial, is the Audi S8 Plus the limousine that RennSport rejected?

After all, the smaller S6 and S7 ascend into the hallowed halls of Audi’s RS division to become the RS6/RS7. But there will be no RS8, despite the S8 Plus using the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine with matching 445kW and 700Nm outputs.

Perhaps ‘rejection’ instead comes in the form of an obsessively dynamic-focused character for what is a stately 5147mm-long sedan. A more relevant question is whether the S8 Plus can blend sports with luxury to a more convincing degree than its cheaper siblings, and justify its $300K-Plus ask.
