THERE were few who would have suggested the two RS head kickers of the Audi range – the RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback – were short on grunt or grip, but Audi has decided to gird its loins by adding horsepower to the already-powerful pair of 600 horsepower brutes.

The practical supercar persona is far from a marketing myth – there’s cabin space and a decent load area, particularly in the wagon – and it’s a quarter-million dollars worth of muscle that can be driven every day.

Trim tweaks are also added to the upped outputs, although it will only be serious Audi-philes pointing them out in traffic as the Performance editions. Unlike the ‘plus’ variants of the S8 and SQ5, the updated RS6 and RS7 are not being sold alongside the standard RS models.
