HOW does a machine with supercar pace, all-paw grip and room for a few sets of golf clubs in the back sound?

As a performance all-rounder, it’s hard to think of many cars that tick more boxes than the Audi RS4: the lower, wider and screaming V8-powered firebrand based on the humble Audi A4 Avant.

Its sportcar chops should come as no surprise, since this car has become synonymous with the idea of fast and sexy wagons since the RS4’s Audi 80-based RS2 spiritual successor - developed in collaboration with Porsche - lobbed in 1994.

The bar was raised ever higher in February this year, when Audi Australia introduced the potent, but $20k cheaper, facelifted iteration tested here.

We only had a week at the wheel, but it snapped and snarled its way into our good graces - we didn’t much fancy returning the keys.
