THE brakes on the RS4 are phenomenal. Large composite-type brake discs are used both front and rear. The technology involves fixing the cast iron disc an aluminium brake-disc chamber by means of 14 pins. This floating arrangement improves the stability and shielding of the brake discs, particularly when exposed to extreme loads and at high disc temperatures. Wight reduction is a further advantage. For the record, the front axle uses 360mm-iameter ventilated discs with dual-piston floating calipers, and the rear has 312mm ventilated discs with single-piston floating calipers. The parameters of the ABS and electronic brake-force distribution systems have been specifically modified to reflect the increased dimensions of the brake components.
