Melbourne show: Audi's tasty trio

BY JAMES STANFORD | 3rd Mar 2008

CAPITALISING on the fact that Mercedes-Benz elected not to attend this year’s Melbourne International Motor Show, Audi took the covers off no less than three Australian premieres: the red-hot RS6 Avant, the sporty TTS Coupe and the stylish A3 Cabriolet.

The German manufacturer also showed its Cross Coupe concept, which was first revealed at last year’s Shanghai motor show and points to its first compact SUV.

The A3 Cabriolet will join local dealerships in July, around the same time as the TTS Coupe, while the RS6 Avant arrives this August. The RS6 Avant runs a thundering V10 generating a whopping 426kW and 650Nm, and it costs a hefty $259,000.

Pricing for the TTS Coupe is still to be announced, but Audi has confirmed it runs a 2.0-litre engine with 200kW and 350Nm. Management also said the A3 Cabriolet will be available with 1.6-litre engine, 1.8 turbo and 2.0 turbo engines, but did not disclose pricing.

Meanwhile, Audi also used the Melbourne show to present the new A4 range, which went on sale this week.
