Audi idle-stop coming this year

BY BYRON MATHIOUDAKIS | 18th May 2009

AUDI has confirmed that idle-stop fuel-saving technology will be introduced in select A4 and A5 Coupe models in Australia from the last quarter of this year.

For the time being, only the A4 sedan and Avant and A5 Coupe models in 155kW 2.0 TFSI quattro guise and fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox will get the fuel and carbon dioxide emissions-reducing technology that forms part of Audi’s Modular Efficiency Program (MEP).

However, according to an Audi spokesman, every subsequent new-generation model will have this feature available for consideration by Audi Australia’s product planners, in both manual and S-tronic dual-clutch manual gearbox iterations.

Audi refers to its idle-stop technology as Start-Stop.
