OF ALL the car companies in the world, there are few that have as many niches within niches as Audi.

As new platforms like the MLB come on stream, it’s actually not that hard nor expensive a process to add another variant to a range – and especially if that variant can add valuable volume to the entire range.

So it is with the A4 Allroad.

It’s only been here for four years, but already it’s boosted A4 wagon volumes by almost a factor of two, and provided a valuable line of relatively fresh content as the brand’s Q5 rolls towards replacement early next year.

The A4 Allroad is also part of a growing subset of middling high-riders that aren’t SUVs in the traditional sense, but still add a little bit of versatility to a practical platform.
