RATHER than transmit electronic signals along individual wiring harnesses, the A4 now uses a complex CAN bus system that uses a single "data highway" for functions used throughout the car. The so-called Multi Communication Bar aerial system, integrated out of sight in the upper edge of the rear window and grouping receivers for the remote central locking system, radio diversity and TV, telephone and sat-nav (where fitted), is an example.
