WHEN the Turbo was launched in Australia in February 1998 all A3s were upgraded from four to five three-point seatbelts and headrests. All A3s received two extra doors from September 1999. With that change, the rear windows also went from manual to powered operation. At the same time the Turbo wheel size grew from 15 to 16-inches. Active reflectors and entry lights at all doors were added, along with a new interior lighting package including two central lights at the front and rear, each combined with two reading lights. The Turbo was also boosted in January 1999, receiving a 10-stack CD and Concert stereo system Front side airbags were also added for this update.
