Sub-$100K pricetag for Alpine A110

THREE flavours of Alpine’s mid-engined A110 sportscar will be offered in Australian showrooms priced from $97,000 before on-road costs, with the Australian Premiere Edition locked in for a fourth quarter launch, and the Pure and Legende grades to hit early next year.
Opening the A110 range will be the Pure grade, which comes standard with rear parking sensors, push-button start, heated door mirrors, lightweight Sabelt bucket seats finished in black leather and microfibre, 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, satellite navigation, leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminium driver’s pedals and 18-inch Serac wheels.
Stepping up to the mid-tier $103,500 Legende adds front parking sensors, a reversing camera, folding side mirrors, Alpine-branded floor mats, black-leather six-way adjustable heated Sabelt seats, Focal sound system, carbon-fibre interior trim, and 18-inch two-tone wheels.
Limited to just 60 examples, the $106,500 Australian Premiere Edition will exclusively wear the brand’s signature blue metallic paintwork, as well as an active sports exhaust, larger 320mm Brembo brakes (standard rotors measure 296mm) and 18-inch Fuchs forged wheels as standard – all of which are optional extras on the other variants.
Glacier White will be standard colour for Pure and Legende version, with Deep Black, Thunder Grey, Blue Abyss, Iris White and the aforementioned Alpine Blue available as options.
Buyers of the Legende grade gain access to an optional Heritage Package that adds chrome highlights to the bonnet and front bumper, while a Storage Package is also on offer for all variants barring the Australian Premiere Edition that adds a cargo net behind the passenger seat and a stowage case.
Front boot capacity in the A110 measures 96 litres, while rear storage space is rated at 100L.
All three versions will pack a 185kW/320Nm punch thanks to a mid-mounted 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that sends drive to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Clocking the scales at 1094kg and with a 44:56 front and rear weight distribution, the Alpine A110 will accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.
Fuel consumption is rated at 6.5 litres per 100km on the combined cycle, while CO2 emissions are pegged at 146 grams per kilometre.
It has double wishbone suspension front and rear that “ensures all versions of the A110 exhibit the dynamic poise and responsiveness of a true Alpine,” according to the Renault-owned brand.
A three-mode drive selector is also standard across the range, with Normal, Sport and Track options, while emergency brake assist, hill start assist, LED headlights, tyre pressure monitoring, driver and passenger front airbags, and cruise control are also included.
All Alpines will come with a three-year/100,000km warranty, and while order books are open now, GoAuto has previously reported that only 54 examples will make it Down Under in 2018, with about another 100 units arriving next year.
For comparison, the A110’s nearest mid-engine, rear-drive rivals are the Porsche Cayman that kicks off from $115,300 for the base manual 220kW/380Nm version and the $84,990 162kW/250Nm Lotus Elise S convertible.
Alpine’s reborn sportscar could also line up against front-engined offerings including the $93,300 BMW M2 Pure and entry-level $107,012 Jaguar F-Type.
