New Acura to mimic BMW X6 crossover coupe

HONDA’S North American luxury brand Acura will present a swooping four-door luxury crossover at the New York motor show next month.

Acura has issued a series of dark photographs that hint at its shape, but has provided no further information.

The pictures show a low roofline with a sharply-raked rear section, muscular rear guards and hidden rear door handles.

These pictures indicate the new four-door vehicle is a large crossover coupe similar in form to the radical BMW X6, which is a derivative of the X5 all-wheel-drive, and the Infiniti FX.

Acura remains tight-lipped about the vehicle, but has pointed out that it will not replace the MDX four-wheel-drive, which has previously been sold in Australia as a Honda.

US automotive media speculation suggests the new model could share the same platform as the MDX and possibly run the same 3.7-litre V6 engine and its all-wheel-drive system.

There has been talk that a new V8 engine could make its appearance in the new crossover, but rumours also suggest this engine has been scrapped.
