New Evolution grade lowers Koleos entry price

BY MATT BROGAN | 4th Jun 2025

FOR the second time since April, Renault Australia has announced significant cuts to the price of its Koleos mid-sized SUV, this time offering the new Evolution grade from as little as $34,990 plus on-road costs.

The Evolution grade replaces the previously available Koleos Zen as the entry point to the range and is powered by what Renault Australia says is a “perky yet efficient” 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 126kW of power at 6000rpm and 226Nm of torque at 4400rpm.

Drive is to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission resulting in a claimed combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 8.1 litres per 100km on regular 91RON unleaded fuel.

Like other Koleos variants, the Evolution is suspended by a MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear arrangement with braking duties performed by all-wheel discs. Braked towing capacity is listed at 2000kg.

Equipment highlights include standard 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery with front seat heating and electric driver side adjustment, LED headlighting with dusk-sensing and auto high beam functions, remote central locking with keyless ignition, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, dual-zone climate control, and rear privacy glass.

Infotainment inclusions extend to a 7.0-inch digital instrument panel and 8.7-inch portrait oriented infotainment touchscreen with AM/FM/DAB+ radio reception, eight-speaker Arkamys sound, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity, and native satellite navigation.

Cargo space is listed at 458 litres in five-seat format and 1690 litres all told, all accessed via a powered tailgate with handsfree functionality. The rear seats fold 60:40 for added flexibility and offer both ISOFIX (x2) and top-tether (x3) child seat anchorages.

Additional safety is provided by way of a full complement of airbags, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot warning, cruise control, front, side, and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, hill start assist, a reversing camera, tyre pressure monitoring, and more.

As is the case elsewhere in the Renault Australia passenger car range, the Koleos Evolution is backed by a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.

“With the Renault Koleos Evolution we are delivering a premium option in the middle of the mid-size SUV market,” said Renault Australia general manager Glen Sealey.

“We know customers have a lot of choice in what is the most popular segment of the new-car market, but we believe this compelling offer from a European brand will prompt people to stop and take notice.”

Locally, the Renault Koleos competes as a rival to the likes of the Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5 and related Nissan X-Trail.

Year-to-date sales for the French import tally just 247 units, falling well behind segment leaders including the Toyota RAV4 (17,610), Mitsubishi Outlander (8807), Kia Sportage (7301), Mazda CX-5 (7145), and Nissan X-Trail (6176).
