Volvo slashes XC90 pricing for 2020

VOLVO Australia has slashed between $5000 and $15,000 from the retail price of its XC90 large SUV in what it describes as an effort to provide the best deal to its customers.

Everything about the XC90 range remains the same as it was before aside from the price, with the entry level D5 Momentum having $5000 chopped from its $94,990 asking price to now be $89,990 plus on-road costs.

The price cuts get bigger the higher up the range you climb, with the D5 Inscription and D5 R-Design each having $6000 lopped off to now cost $94,990 and $96,990 respectively (plus ORC).

The formerly $96,990 T6 Momentum now costs $89,990 plus on-road costs – a reduction of $7000 – while the T6 Inscription and T6 R-Design have had $8000 slashed from their previous $102,990 and $104,990 (plus ORC) asking prices to now cost $94,990 and $96,990.

Arguably the biggest news however and certainly the biggest price reduction belongs to the flagship T8 Plug In Hybrid R-Design which has had a huge $15,000 chopped from its former asking price, now commanding a cool $114,990 plus on-road costs.

Volvo Cars Australia corporate and PR director Greg Bosnich said the brand found there to be a “significant disparity between the manufacturers’ retail price and that of the transaction price” within the large luxury segment.

“For us the best offer is paramount,” he said. “Transparency is the best solution.”

“We have a drive towards one per cent market share and this will be driven in the main by the XC40 and the XC60… XC90 we see as remaining stable.”

Mr Bosnich also referenced the upcoming XC40 Recharge duo, with the Plug In Hybrid due to hit Aussie shores later this year before the Pure Electric lobs sometime 2021.

Elsewhere in Volvo’s range, the S60 T8 Plug In Hybrid R-Design, V60 T8 Plug In Hybrid R-Design and XC60 T8 Polestar Engineered were all treated to $1000 reductions in retail price, now asking $84,990, $86,990 and $98,990 respectively.

Despite the struggling Aussie new-car market, the XC90 experienced a 1.9 per cent increase in sales last year while Volvo sales as a whole climbed 16.2 per cent to end 2019 with 7779 sales.
