LA Show: Maybach to return at record-breaking show

BY RICHARD BERRY | 8th Aug 2014

THE Los Angeles Auto Show has announced a record number of debuts will take place at the event in November this year, including the return of the uber-luxury Maybach brand.

Organisers of this year’s show, which runs from November 18-30, say there will be nearly 60 world and North American debuts.

While secrecy surrounds the list of reveals, the announcement said to expect 25 global premiers from Acura, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, General Motors, Hyundai, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Scion, Toyota, Volvo and Volkswagen.

Some things, however, are hard to keep quiet and GoAuto understands Daimler plans to use the LA show to host the return of its new Maybach-badged model, which ceased production in 2012.

It is expected to have a wheelbase 200mm longer than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class 600L upon which it is based and cost double the price - close to $AU800,000.

Also from the Mercedes-Benz camp will be the debut of its C63 AMG performance sedan, which will be packing AMG’s latest twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 in a bid to take on BMW’s new M3 and M4 twins.

On the subject of BMW, the Bavarian car-maker is expected to have its new high-performance X6M at the LA show, which will be powered by the 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 from the M5 sedan.

Chrysler is also likely to debut its revised 300 large sedan at the LA show, which is expected to feature new headlights and a new grille.

Kia’s new Sorrento will have its American debut at Los Angeles, following its reveal at the Paris show in October.
