THE Mercedes-Benz C-class range has another string to its bow in the form of the C220 CDI. Not destined to become the people's choice Down Under, the high-tech four-cylinder diesel version nonetheless offers good engine performance and a more economical alternative to the petrol-engined models in the stable. Combine this with the new generation's technical innovations, strong appearance, excellent road manners and good packaging, and the oil-burner demands a closer look.
