Ford reveals Falcon pricing

FORD has revealed pricing for its final Falcon range that goes on sale in December, kicking off from $35,900, plus on-road costs, and carrying reductions of up to $9685.

As GoAuto has reported, Ford has ditched the XT name and replaced it with 'Falcon' as the range opener, while slashing $1335 from the price.

This pricing means the base Falcon is $410 more expensive than the entry-level 3.0-litre Holden Commodore Evoke but $590 cheaper than the V6-powered Toyota Aurion AT-X.

Ford’s performance-oriented XR6 in manual guise starts at $35,590, a $4400 drop over the FG version, and the automatic is down $3200, to $37,790.

The XR6 pricing undercuts Holden’s SV6 Commodore, which kicks off from $36,490 for the manual, by $900.

Buyers wanting more get-up-and-go can opt for the new Falcon XR6 Turbo, which drops $3245 to $42,990, while the self-shifter is $3045 less than before with a $45,190 price tag.

In an effort to streamline the range, Ford also has discontinued the previous mid-spec G6 variant, which is effectively replaced by the G6E.

The move follows Holden’s decision in mid last year to kill the mid-spec VF Berlina and drop the price of the formerly range-topping Calais and introduce a new flagship Calais V-Series.

Ford has cut the price of the automatic-only G6E for its final iteration by $6625, from $46,735 to $40,110, while the new top-spec G6E Turbo loses $9685 compared with the outgoing model for a recommended retail price of $46,550.

In contrast, the Calais is available from $40,490 ($380 more than G6E) and the Calais V-Series is $47,990 ($1440 more than G6E Turbo).

The Blue Oval is yet to reveal pricing for its forthcoming XR8 sports sedan, but expect it retail for about $50,000 when it confirms the price early next month.

The EcoLPi gas-powered engine is available on Falcon and XR6 variants for an additional $2500, but Ford has maintained its pricing policy of offering the frugal 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine, matched with a six-speed ZF gearbox, as a no-cost option on Falcon and G6E Options on the sedan range include a tow pack for an extra $550, “prestige” paint for $385, a spare alloy wheel for $250, and leather trim on the XR6 and XR6 Turbo for $2100.

Ford has amended pricing for its Falcon ute workhorse, but the addition of a six-speed auto as standard on the base Cab Chassis and Styleside Box has lifted the price by $800 apiece to $29,390 and 29,790 respectively, while single-zone climate control is now standard.

The XR6 Cab Chassis now starts at $32,140 thanks to a $3750 reduction, the XR6 Styleside Box drops by $3550 to $32,640 and the XR6 Styleside Box XR6 Turbo tops the trader favourite at $39,810. The ZF six-speed transmission can be optioned on the XR6 for $2200.

New standard features across the range include a reversing camera with guide lines, front parking sensors adding to the rear units already available, Sync2 voice control and Sync2 Emergency Assistance system that contacts emergency services following an accident if the airbags have inflated.

The last ever Falcon also gains DAB+ digital radio, two USB ports, eight-inch hi-res colour touchscreen, SD card slot, wi-fi hot-spot capability, new seat fabrics, alloy wheel covers. It will also be covered by the myFord capped-price servicing program.

The confirmation of pricing is part of a long campaign of teaser and staggered releases that started in July and looks set to continue until the model’s debut in local showrooms in December.

Along with the facelifted Territory SUV, the FG X will be the last Australian- developed and built Ford to roll off its Broadmeadows production line before the company shuts its local operation in 2016.
