Jaguar updates XE, XF, F-Pace

JAGUAR has announced updated Ingenium powertrains and specification tweaks for its XE, XF and F-Pace ranges, bringing in a pair of refreshed 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines for the sedans as well as a new twin turbo-diesel unit for the F-Pace and XF, all due in Australian showrooms by mid-year.

The new engines have a big focus on efficiency thanks to reduced friction, new direct injection, reduced warm-up times and twin-scroll turbos for petrol variants.

The entry-level 2.0-litre petrol unit for the XE and for the first time the XF, denoted by the 20t badge, retains its old power output of 147kW but has received a lift in torque of 40Nm to 320Nm.

The XE equipped with this engine travels from zero to 100km/h in 7.1 seconds, sips 6.3 litres of fuel per 100km and emits 144 grams of CO2 per km.

It pushes the bigger XF from 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds, with fuel economy of 6.8L/100km and CO2 emissions rated at 154g/km.

The new 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder 25t unit, which has been updated for the XE and XF and will be introduced on the F-Pace for the first time, has received a 7kW bump in power to 184kW, as well as 25Nm of extra torque to 365Nm.

This allows for a 0-100km/h time of 6.8s in the F-Pace, 6.6s in the XF and 6.3s in the XE.

Fuel economy and CO2 emissions sit at 7.1L/100km and 163g/km for the F-Pace, while emissions and economy in the XF and XE remain identical to the 147kW version.

Making its debut in the Australian line-up is the new 177kW/500Nm 2.0-litre diesel four-cylinder that employs twin turbochargers and an eight-speed automatic transmission, and will be available in the XF and F-Pace under the 25d badge.

The new diesel moves the F-Pace from 0-100km/h in 7.2s, with fuel economy of 5.8L/100km and emissions of 153g/km.

In the XF, the oiler sips 5.3L/100km, emits 139g/km and can manage the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.5s.

The other engine to get a boost is the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 in the XE S, which receives a hike in power from 250kW to 280kW, mirroring the V6 and V6 S variants of the F-Type sportscar.

Along with the powerplant upgrades, all three models have received tweaks to specification levels and safety technology.

The XE is now available with gesture-controlled boot opening, a 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster, configurable dynamics, which allows drivers to personalise gear shift, throttle and steering settings, and adaptive dynamics, which can be optioned on vehicles with adaptive suspension.

New safety equipment includes blind spot monitor, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian protection, forward vehicle guidance and forward traffic detection.

New features on the XF incorporate configurable dynamics, adaptive dynamics, gesture-controlled boot opening, as well as 20-way adjustable front row seats with power headrests and side wing supports.

Boosted safety tech for the range comprises blind spot assist, forward traffic detection and forward vehicle guidance.

The updated F-Pace range comes with a new light oyster/ebony interior option, while all models in Prestige and Portfolio levels of trim now get Sport steering wheels as standard.

Portfolio variants also add enhanced front seats with powered headrest height adjustment and manually adjustable winged headrests.

New safety features include forward traffic detection and forward vehicle guidance.

Production of the new models begins in April and will arrive in Australian showrooms in June or July, with pricing information to be revealed closer to its release date.
