Released: Sep 2013

Volvo’s new V40 hatch will spawn a high-riding Cross Country version in the second half of 2013. The jacked up Cross Country will be 40mm higher than the standard V40 hatch and will have similar crossover visual clues as its XC70 stable-mate, such as black lower body cladding and silver scuff plates, providing a premium alternative to Subaru’s popular XV.

Released: Feb 2013

Volvo will release an all-new model to its Australian line-up in the form of the V40 luxury hatch in early 2013. The Swedish brand says that the V40 will be well-specified and come with the usual array of safety features buyers expect, and it will be pitched against the BMW 1-Series, Audi A3 and Mercedes’ upcoming A-Class.

Released: Dec 2011

The Hot S60 is based on the standard T6 AWD R-Design sedan and fitted with a number of locally fitted performance tweaks including an engine software upgrade from Volvo’s motorsport partner Polestar, increasing power and torque to 242kW (up 18kW) and 480Nm (up 40Nm). German tuning house Heico supplies unique 19-inch alloy wheels and a sports exhaust system.

Volvo will unveil its second-generation S60 sedan in locally in late 2010. Based on the S60 concept from Detroit 2008 (pictured), it shares the same platform as the XC70 and S80 models. Released: May 2010

Volvo’s is expected to launch the facelifted C30 DRIVe-spec model locally in April 2010. It uses a state-of-the-art 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine, returning a combined average fuel figure of 3.8 litres per 100km – 0.1L/100km better than official figures of both the Toyota Prius hybrid and diesel Mini Cooper D.

Sweden’s number one vehicle brand will launch a facelifted C70 coupe-convertible offering a fresh look and updated engines, while reworked front fenders, new grille and bolder headlamps, contribute to a sharper, more streamlined front fascia. At the rear, the C70 gets its own specific LED lights.

Released: Feb 2009

Volvo revealed the first images of its mould-breaking new XC60 at the 2008 Geneva motor show, based on Land Rover's new Freelander platform and featuring a similar AWD system. Engine choices should comprise an inline five-cylinder petrol and D5 diesel, as well as a 3.2-litre straight six.

Volvo used the 2006 Sydney motor show to reveal its new C30 hatch, which will intially be offered in naturally-aspirated 125kW 2.4-litre five-cylinder and hot 162kW 2.5-litre T5 guises. A 134kW 2.0-litre D5 turbo-diesel is also expected. Volvo's three-door A3 rival is 220mm shorter than the S40 sedan.

The sleek S80 arrives in February with models ranging from the six-speed manual D5 diesel and topping out at the AWD V8. The Yamaha-sourced V8 develops 235kW/440Nm and is mated to a six-speed automatic. The 2.4-litre D5 diesel, also shared with the XC90, develops 136kW/400Nm in the S80.

Volvo Cars Australia has added the 2.4-litre D5 turbo-diesel engine to the compact S40 sedan and V50 wagon range to supplement the petrol engines, with pricing starting around $44,000. Volvo announced its 3 Series, C-class and A4-matching S40/V50 turbo-diesels at the 2006 Sydney motor show.

Volvo's first ever V8 motivates the flagship of the facelifted XC90 luxury SUV range, which also comprises turbo-diesel for the first time from October. The new D5 offers 136kW/400Nm, the 4.4-litre V8 makes 232kW/440Nm and the entry-level 2.5 turbo five remains. Pricing spans $70,000 to $85,000.

Released: Mar 2006

Volvo is keen to deliver a successor for the now defunct C70 coupe/convertible ASAP, renamed the C50. Likely to undercut the C70 on price, the folding metal roofed four-seater will be styled by Pininfarina and use underpinnings from the S40/V50/Mazda3/Focus, with all-wheel drive as standard.

Released: Mar 2006

Volvo will produce its first small car since the 440. Said to closely resemble Volvo's Safety Concept Car (pictured) and likely to be based on the Ford Fiesta, the all-new V30 will rival German heavyweights like Golf, A3 and BMW's new 1 Series. The three and five-door hatch will be 400mm shorter than S40.

Released: Oct 2005

Volvo's P1 platform, on which the S40 and V50 are based, will also spawn a compact off-roader that is likely to be badged XC50. A five-door, all-wheel drive wagon, XC50 will be similar in concept to XC70, but smaller and cheaper. Volvo gave a hint to its appearance with this model at the 2003 New York show.

Released: Mar 2005

Volvo's all-new S40 compact sedan is likely to score all-paw motivation when an all-wheel drive, T5-powered version of Volvo's most important car goes on sale here around Melbourne motor show time in March 2005. Expect a smaller price premium than that charged by the S60 AWD over regular S60s.

Released: Mar 2005

Volvo is expected to add turbo-diesel power to its two-model XC90 SUV range by early 2005, possibly around Melbourne show time in March. The oil-burning XC90 will get the entry-level 2.5T petrol's five-speed auto (not the T6's four-speeder), plus Volvo's new common rail five-cylinder 122kW D5 engine.

Released: Oct 2004

Volvo's next-generation compact wagon, to be known as V50 rather than V40 like its predecessor, will go on sale a few months after the new S40 - around Sydney show time in October 2004. Slightly shorter but larger in every other respect, V50 will be five-cylinder-only and more expensive than before.

Released: Jan 2004

Volvo will launch an updated S80 luxury flagship in January 2004, headlined by a square mesh grille, new lower bumper, bi-Xenons, sportier instruments and real woodgrain trim. The twin-turbo 200kW T6 will be the only S80 sold here, priced at the same $98,950 and available with S60 R's active Four-C chassis.

Released: Dec 2003

Volvo's hottest ever model, the S60R, does on sale Down Under in December 2003. Released alongside its V70R wagon sibling (priced at $102,950), the S60R sedan costs $98,950. Volvo’s first attempt at a genuine sports sedan, the S60R features a 220kW turbo engine, active suspension and better brakes.
