Audi farewells the iconic TT roadster

AUDI is set to farewell its much-loved TT roadster with a US-only Final Edition.

Produced by Audi of America especially for US customers, just 50 examples of the vehicle will be made available, all with a unique Goodwood Green finish – recalling a hue offered on the first-generation model.

The gorgeous two-door TT Roadster Final Edition is fitted with silver-finished Y-spoke 20-inch forged alloys from the TT S, magnetic ride suspension with 10mm lowered ride height, platinum matte grey exterior garnishing, S line body kit, and a grey folding soft-top – offered previously on the 2019 TT Roadster 20^th Anniversary.

The interior is finished in rich Palomino Brown leather – a nod to the original’s Baseball Stitch upholstery – with Audi’s extended leather package and carbon-fibre inlays and branded floor mats with matching leather piping and stitch work offered as standard.

With S sport seats as standard, the TT Roadster Final Edition includes neck-level heating and built-in seatbelt microphones for “optimising Bluetooth and voice recognition operation”.

The TT Roadster Final Edition is powered by Audi’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder (EA888-series) mill producing 170kW and 350Nm. It is paired exclusively to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and quattro all-wheel drive, assisting the sporty variant from standstill to 100km/h in just 5.5 seconds.

Taking its name from the legendary Isle of Man Tourist Trophy, the ‘TT’ made its debut in 1998 as a Coupe, the roadster arriving 12 months later. According to Audi, the Bauhaus inspired design of the TT (penned by Peter Schreyer) “challenged conventional ideas of Audi design”, while the name itself was a “deliberate departure from the brand’s usual nomenclature to underscore the novelty of the model line”.

The TT often served as a technology leader for the brand, launching several iconic design and technology firsts – including the electronically deployable rear spoiler, S tronic dual-clutch transmission, Audi Virtual Cockpit (digital instrument panel), and OLED tail-lights.

Audi will finalise production of the TT at the end of this year. The TT Roadster Final Edition will be available in the US only from $67,800 ($A104,095) plus on-road costs.

Locally, three versions of the Audi TT remain – all coupes. They include the TT 45 TFSI S tronic quattro (from $84,000 +ORC), the TT S 2.0 TFSI S tronic quattro (from $101,675 +ORC) and the fire breathing TT RS 2.5 TFSI S tronic quattro (from $139.769 +ORC).

The Audi TT competes within the Sports over $80K market category locally where it has sold just 88 examples so far this year. The German-built sports car competes directly with the likes of the BMW Z4 (with 69 sales to the end of October 2023), Jaguar F-Type (41 sales), Porsche Cayman (259 sales) and Toyota GR Supra (211 sales).
