Seat Ibiza

Ibiza Series II

1 Sep 1998

A re-launch of the Seat brand in late 1998 – which included a three-prong Cordoba range and a re-specified Toledo – came too little and too late, with scant interest shown even in the new 110kW 2.0-litre twin-cam 16-valve Ibiza Cupra Sport three-door hot hatch.

Along with the former GTI’s driver’s airbag, anti-lock brakes, power steering, air-conditioning, alloy wheels, power windows and central locking, the fun-to-drive Cupra added a passenger airbag, sports suspension, traction control, trip computer, bodykit, revised bumpers and trim and better audio.

But by mid-’99 the last of the Seats were sold in Australia.

VW has indicated it may re-introduce Seat locally as its “Alfa Romeo” style sports brand.
