Designed in-house by Proton and its Lotus subsidiary, the GEN.2 is a five-door hatchback featuring intriguing elements of European and Japanese design, particularly in the smartly presented interior.
There have been grumblings from critics about the lack of refinement or quality ambience, but the GEN.2’s perky performance (from a 82kW/148Nm 1.6-litre DOHC 16V four-cylinder engine), eager handling, long equipment list and keen pricing should make it the best Proton yet.
