Holden Astra

LD Astra

1 Jul 1987

A huge advance over its lightweight Astra predecessor, the second-generation version was co-developed locally with the all-new N13 Pulsar.

It resulted in a stronger, roomier body and local drivetrain (from the Holden Camira), with power and durability boosted considerably.

Both 56kW 1.6-litre SL and 79kW 1.8 models are worthwhile. Great seats, good economy and lots of spares add to the Astra’s attractions.

Holden’s switch to the Toyota Corolla-based Nova prematurely killed the LD, but the name was revived again in mid-’96 for the unsuccessful UK Vauxhall Astra model.
