Ford Fairlane

P6 LTD

1 Sep 1976

Astonishingly, Ford lengthened the LTD’s wheelbase by 36mm to 3074mm, for a real gargantuan look.

A Rolls-Royce style vertical grille and round headlights, a lushly garish cabin treatment, and a distinct taillight design was Ford’s last attempt to woo luxury car buyers becoming increasingly more interested in sophisticated European marques.

Oddly, Ford retained the shallower old XA/XB Falcon rear doors for the LTD.

The only engine available was the anti-pollution equipped 164kW 5.8-litre V8. A special paint Silver Monarch edition was added to the LTD range.

Much of the handling, ride and steering gains achieved, as part of the XC Falcon program was lost in the sheer weight and size of the P6 LTD.

Just 5896 were made.
