The seventh-generation BMW 5 Series arrived in March 2017 with designs to remain the 'ultimate driving machine' in the prestige large sedan segment.

Weight loss was also the G30's prerogative with savings of 95kgs thanks to the extensive use of magnesium, as well as all-aluminium doors, bootlid and bonnet.

Meanwhile, the initial four-tier line-up was more simplified than its predecessor's, including the 520d, 530i, 530d and 540i – which were all rear-wheel-drive and fitted with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Significant price rises between $9145 and $19,245 were balanced with added value from higher equipment levels, including a bevy of range-wide sensors that supported various safety and semi-autonomous technologies.
