B3 80

1 Aug 1988

With its strikingly aerodynamic, galvanised body and solid, stylised interior, the B3 80 series brought Audi back into contention in Australia.

The initial shipments arrived with an 83kW 1.9L 4-cylinder engine in both front-wheel drive and 4WD quattro configurations, but in early ’89 a torquier 83kW 2.0L engine was installed and prices dropped dramatically.

All 80s featured air-con, power steering, central locking and power windows.

At the same time the 100kW 2.3L B3 90 appeared, followed by the 125kW 90 quattro versions in September ’89. The latter replaced the short-lived 80 quattro.

All quattros had five-speed manual gearboxes, while a four-speed auto replaced the outmoded three-speed unit in front-drive models from January ’91.
