Kia offered its Picanto micro hatchback in Australia in April 2016, five years following its launch overseas.

The Picanto was designed and engineered primarily for European markets but was built in South Korea. It became Kia’s first local offering in the micro car segment, positioned below the Rio light hatchbackIt was available only with a 1.25-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and four-speed automatic in a single Si model grade, with outputs of 63kW/120Nm and claimed combined cycle fuel consumption of 5.6 litres per 100 kilometres.

The Si arrived with 14-inch steel wheels, halogen daytime running lights and reversing sensors on the outside, and air-conditioning, power windows and mirrors, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and AM/FM radio and CD player inside. It was offered with six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC) and was given a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
