The third Dodge model to go on sale in Australia is the Avenger, which brings testosterone-fuelled styling to the mid-sized sedan class.

Taking on cars like the Toyota Camry, Mazda6 and Honda Accord, the new Dodge arrives with a full suite of standard safety gear including electronic stability control and front and side curtain airbags and a $28,290 starting price which includes two years comprehensive insurance.

The Avenger is built off the same platform as the Chrysler Sebring and shares the same 2.4-litre which produces 125kW and 220Nm.

Both cars will also be available with a 137kW V6, which is due to arrive early next year.

Unlike the Sebring, the Avenger uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine to enable the sharp entry level price. This engine is no fireball, with power output at 115kW and torque sitting at 190Nm.

That 2.0-litre model is only available with a five-speed manual, while the 2.4-litre is only available with a (four-speed) automatic.
